FLORENCE — A portion of Hermitage Drive near Simpson Street was blocked Tuesday as workers prepare to begin a $153,535 sidewalk project near Braly Stadium.
The sidewalk connects to an existing walkway coming off the Railroad Avenue overpass on Hermitage Drive and extends along the west side of Hermitage Drive past the Jackson Heights Church of Christ, then downhill toward Royal Avenue. It will terminate across the street from the stadium.
Many University of North Alabama football fans park around Hermitage Drive and walk along the the road to the stadium.
The contract calls for the project to be completed in 70 working days.
The sidewalk being funded by the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (ATRIP). The city is paying 20 percent of the project cost.
